Plante Moran one of Fortune’s 100 Best companies’, and one of America’s largest US Public Accounting firms, is currently seeking a Sr. Tax Consultant that will be located in Downtown Chicago.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Review returns for individual, trust, partnership, corporate and foreign tax clients, including federal, foreign, state and local tax returns, estimated payments and extensions, and Federal and State tax audits
  • Research and consult on various tax matters; utilize tax-related software to prepare and process returns and research tax matters
  • Demonstrate an understanding of increasingly complex tax concepts
  • Discuss moderately complex tax issues with the engagement team and client management
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of tax staff
  • Provide thorough and effective review of staff work product while providing constructive feedback and identifying staff developmental needs
  • Make recommendations on return preparation regarding accuracy and tax savings opportunities; gain increasing responsibility in review process
  • Participate in client engagements from the beginning to completion, this includes planning, executing, and completing tax projects
  • Work with client management and staff at all levels to perform tax services
  • Monitoring the effective tax rate, as well as quarterly and annual financial statement tax related disclosures
  • Respond to inquiries from the IRS and other tax authorities
  • Proactively interact with key client management to gather information, resolve tax-related issues, and make recommendations for business and process improvements
  • Maintain and continue developing relationships with clients, including involvement in networking and business development activities
  • Work to gain comprehensive understanding of client operations, processes, and business objectives and utilize that knowledge on engagements
  • Attend professional development and training sessions on a regular basis
  • Participates in formal proposal process
  • Develop client presentations and participate in selling opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications:

  • 3-4 years of recent tax experience in public accounting
  • CPA Required
  • Experience with corporate returns and pass through entities is a plus
  • Experience supervising and mentoring staff on engagements
  • Ability to organize work effectively and meet deadlines
  • Proficient with tax software applications
  • Superior problem solving ability
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated problem solving and project management skills
  • Ability to travel on occasion
  • Ability to work Saturdays during and overtime during busy season
  • Qualified individuals must either reside in Chicagoland or be willing to relocate to the area for this opportunity.
  • Limited travel is required with this position.
