Under general supervision, ensures adherence to both regulatory (IRS and other Tax Authorities) and Corporate Tax policies and practices in the collection, analysis and reporting of financial tax information. Coordinates and prepares the US and state income tax returns and supporting work papers to be used in negotiating tax audits in accordance with Company policies and procedures while presenting the most favorable supportable positions to the Tax Authorities. In addition, supports tax planning in order to maximize the tax benefits realizable to the Company.


•Reviews divisional and legal entity tax packs and associated support for accuracy and completeness

•Responds to Federal and state notices

•Prepares work papers and response to tax authorities document requests

•Ensures all state and federal tax payments are made properly and timely, and adequately supported

•Researches and gathers necessary information to obtain state tax credits and special deductions

•Maximizes the research tax credit and ensure supported by appropriate documentation

•Reviews of the calculation of special deductions and other credits to maximize benefits

•Calculates foreign taxes and assists in dividend planning

•Provides tax advice on local non-income tax audits and planning

•Reviews income tax charges, assets and liabilities and ensures they are properly recorded

•Assists with the finalization of the calculation of deferred tax liabilities and current tax provision

•Ensures foreign tax withholdings are properly recorded and withholding certificates obtained

•Ensures compliance with updated Smith and John Crane tax policies and procedures

•Assists in tax planning and provide tax services and advice

•Works with outsourced service provider and division / legal entity in resolving issues relating to Federal & state tax returns

•Ensures accurate and complete income tax returns are timely filed.

•Assists in special projects as needed

•Assists Temps in the correct and most efficient method of doing their work.


A bachelor’s degree in accounting and four to seven years of experience in federal and state income tax in a corporate tax department or public accounting firm. Strong knowledge of federal and state corporate income taxes, excel, power point, and GAAP / IFRS accounting, within the manufacturing sector is preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills along with ability to manage deadlines and execute decisions in a timely manner.
