Chicago Multistate Marketing Consultant (Tax)

Position Summary:


Deloitte Tax’s Multistate Tax Services (“Multistate Tax”) team is the largest state and local tax practice in the United States, with more than 900 professionals nationwide and in India. These professionals include former state tax auditors and administrators, industry personnel, tax practitioners, accounting specialists, and technology personnel with numerous years of multistate tax experience. Collectively, our team has significant experience with the requirements and nuances of jurisdictions in all 50 states. Multistate Tax professionals help our clients manage state tax liability and such challenges as states with unique tax laws, the enforcement focus of state departments of revenue, the growing number of tax audits, and increased merger and acquisition activity. Our specific services include business restructuring, credits and incentives, sales and use tax, sales and use tax outsourcing, property tax, state income and franchise tax, state strategic tax review, and state tax controversy.


Deloitte Tax is currently searching for a Marketing Senior Specialist to assist with various market facing activities to help drive the Multistate Tax Services brand and messaging in the national market place as well as conduct analysis for specific service lines or industries. The individual will work with other marketing professionals in support of Deloitte’s Multistate Tax Services business objectives and marketing initiatives. The ideal candidate will be a professional with strong project management skills that is organized and flexible. He/she will need to have a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels of a complex organization and interact regularly with senior leadership.


Responsibilities include support and assistance in the following areas:

  • Assist in the design, coordination, communication, and implementation of national, cross-functional MTS marketing programs.
  • Develop, update, and maintain marketing and sales collateral materials including brochures, sales sheets, placemats, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
  • Help with the development and coordination of thought leadership materials, including articles, “point of view” white papers, byline articles, primary and secondary research reports, marketplace surveys, podcasts, and presentation materials (including “Dbriefs” webcasts and live speaking engagements); support eminence efforts, including press releases, media materials, and social media activity.
  • Help with coordination of proprietary Deloitte events and third-party conference sponsorships.
  • Assist with targeting programs, including developing target lists for campaigns.
  • Develop internal and external communications, including email campaigns and website content.
  • Work closely with all MTS support teams including USI, DCS, Tax Clients & Markets, Public Relations, Internal Communications, and WNT Knowledge Management teams to support the strategic objectives and campaign launch plans outlined in the marketing plan.
  • Coordinate, track and report on key marketing activities including program calendars, program ROI (through the use of the MIX database), and invoice processing.
  • Work closely with the Eminence Channel team to schedule MTS releases, ensure proper client targeting, and to determine the most effective approach for MTS content distribution.
  • Help with management of the external site(s) and intranet site(s) to ensure content is up to date, properly promoted and/or cross-promoted, and that MTS marketing is maximizing the power of these channels.
  • Help with the design and execution of marketing events including event invitations, distribution lists and materials.
  • Support and manage marketing event follow-up. Assist with event planning and preparation.
  • Assist on project-specific inquiries from Deloitte leadership and global pursuit teams.
  • Provide marketing assistance to execute special marketing projects for key initiatives.
  • Support the execution of the social media strategy including drafting internal enabling materials, creating and tracking postings, risk review, etc.
  • Help drive compilation of metrics and oversee creation of mid-year and year-end reports.
  • Help identify, drive and support activities that support the relationship development and business expansion related to key targets and clients.
  • Assist with implementing major promotional events such as trade shows, roundtables, internal conference and industry speaking events.
  • Help to manage risk and independence reviews and processes for sponsorships, Deloitte proprietary events, association memberships, external communications to include invitations, target marketing process, ad development, etc.
  • Develop marketplace material through Documents & Creative Services (DCS) such as office brochures, placemats, presentations and local advertisements.
  • Assist with the management of the CPE credit approval submission process for events.
  • Assist with the information input for Marketing Information Xchange, ensuring all events and appropriate activities are input from conception through follow up and lead generation activity.
  • Additional responsibilities as needed.


  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or related discipline and
  • Requires a minimum of 1 year of prior relevant experience.Previous experience in marketing, communications, public relations or sales desired, including internships.
  • Detail-oriented with strong project management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to analyze data and make sound observations and recommendations.
  • Requires proficient in mainstream marketing, social media and internet resources; Knowledge of Internet navigation and research tools.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including demonstrated expertise with collaborative writing processes, a variety of corporate communication styles, and knowledge of editorial processes.
  • Requires knowledge of marketing fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service excellence.
  • Experience working remotely with a national team is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines on multiple activities; self-starter.
  • Strong relationship building/relationship management skills.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic and organized.

  • Requires expert level computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Some Travel is required
