General Tax Manager Position Summary:

 

Deloitte Tax LLP professionals of the National Federal Tax Services (NFTS) practice work with local office Deloitte Tax professionals to assist clients with fundamental tax planning and analysis.  These Federal tax professionals work to understand company-specific business and tax issues and work with the company to optimize its tax position to identify and mitigate risk areas.

 

As a Tax Manager in our National Federal Tax Services (NFTS) practice, you will be offering day-to-day management of projects through the delivery of tax consulting services to the client.  Primary responsibilities include implementation of valuable tax consulting projects and the oversight of complex tax research projects for clients in diverse industries, participation in engagements requiring tax analysis for a variety of entities and their affiliates, and research and analysis of a wide range of tax issues encountered during our projects.

 

Tax Managers supervise assignments by the professional accountants serving as Tax Consultants and Tax Senior Consultants. They have responsibility for the development and motivation of engagement staff and provide them with leadership, counseling and career guidance.  They have proven, extensive technical skills and have developed their reputation in a given industry/service offering.  They must demonstrate sound judgment and instincts with respect to evaluating complex scenarios, while supervising and developing our people.

 

Specific Post-Merger Integration Tax Manager Position Summary:

 

The NFTS, Post-Merger Integration Services (PMI) practice advises businesses and their investors on tax matters associated with integration, divestment, joint ventures, bankruptcy emergence, public equity offerings and legal entity realignment.  Working with complementary teams from Deloitte Consulting LLP, Deloitte & Touche LLP Assurance and Enterprise Risk Services, and Deloitte Financial Advisory Services LLP, tax professionals within PMI consult with clients concerning operations, corporate functions (e.g. Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, procurement and sales).  They assist clients on the following matters of taxation: 1) those resulting from the transaction (such as golden parachute rules), 2) departmental operations (e.g., combined financial accounting, tax department assimilation or tax ops stand-up), and 3) those arising from synergy capture and business or process changes.

 

We are currently seeking a Manager for our PMI tax practice.  This position requires the ability to identify and understand complex tax issues through reading financial statements, regulatory filings, transactional documentation, client correspondence and tax returns, and to evaluate the income and indirect tax implications of proposed integrations, divestitures and related business transformational transactions.  PMI Managers must be familiar with the tax consulting process and possess the professionalism necessary to meet clients’ tax needs.  They will supervise assignments by tax professionals at the senior consultant and consultant levels with Deloitte Tax, having responsibility for the development and motivation of the engagement teams and provide them with leadership, counseling and project guidance.  In addition, PMI Managers direct complex tax research, formulate tax-planning strategies and perform tax department assessments, working with others within Deloitte Tax to ensure delivery of client service at the highest possible level.  Successful candidates will have an opportunity to expand tax research skills via extensive tax research involving complex technical tax and operational issues (e.g., taxation of corporations and pass-throughs, tax accounting methods, tax operations, indirect taxation schemes in the United States and abroad, etc).

 

 

  • 5 or more years Core Federal Tax experience required
  • Big 4 experience or equivalent a plus
  • Working knowledge of Corporate tax issues associated with business combinations and divestitures, including substantial experience in taxation of corporations and their shareholders, partnerships and their partners, and similar disciplines required
  • Knowledge of  FAS 109, tax accounting and basic multi-state and international tax principles required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other business related field required
  • Advanced Degree preferred: MST, MAcc, LLM or JD
  • CPA preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills with management/executive presence
  • Ability to participate in all aspects of engagement strategic planning initiatives
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly disciplined; ability to work under strict deadlines in a fast-paced, collegial environment
  • Flexibility for extensive travel
