Job Description:
The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is the U.S. Firm’s legal department, providing dedicated legal support to the partnership. OGC divides its resources into five practice groups:
Litigation, which oversees claims and regulatory proceedings involving the firm and its personnel.

Counseling, which supports the individual Lines of Service with respect to practice issues, as well as advises on regulatory issues.

Corporate, which advises the firm on matters relating to its operations, including mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, commercial contracting, governance and partnership law matters, privacy and treasury affairs.

Commercial, which supports the firm’s client contracting function.

Employment, which advises on matters related to employees and partners of the firm. See “Additional Information” below for a description of the specific OGC role that the firm is currently seeking to fill.Â

Position/Program Requirements:
Basic Qualifications: Prior experience providing legal advice as a specialist in one of the practice groups (litigation, counseling, corporate, commercial, employment ).
Prior professional experience required; the extent, nature and duration of the experience depends upon the role involved.

Minimum Years of Experience: 8

Minimum Degree Required: Juris Doctorate

Knowledge Preferred:
Technical professional in legal specialty.

Skills Preferred:
Experience managing a significant segment of a business or function and/or experience in handling highly complex legal issues involving significant risk and requiring the application of seasoned judgment.
Proven experience in identifying and analyzing complex legal/regulatory/business issues and providing appropriate legal advice regarding applicable legal and professional standards, often on a time-sensitive basis.
Experience with managing outside counsel to obtain optimal outcome and contain costs.
Extensive negotiation skills with respect to legal issues.
Proven ability to manage multiple cases/matters/projects and/or teams of internal and/or external resources.
Proven ability to build consensus, even for difficult or unpopular courses of action necessitated by legal or regulatory requirements.
Ability to advise and successfully interact at the senior leadership level.

Additional Information:
The assurance counseling group provides legal advice to the firm’s client-facing professionals, leadership, risk management and other groups within the assurance practice. This role is distinct from a litigation attorney, as counselors are not responsible for managing any litigations, regulatory enforcement inquiries or subpoenas directed at the firm. Counselors provide legal advice to assist engagement partners and their team with professional practice issues, secruitities laws and other legal expertise, regulatory and legistlative matters, and developing policies and procedures designed to enhance quality and manage risk, support the firm’s business initiatives and respond to legal and regulatory trends and issues.. Counselors review and advise on egnagement letters and other agreements with clients and third parties related to client work.
